Hailuogou Scenic Zone (Hailuogou & Gongga Mt.)

Located in Moxi Town, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, Hailuogou Scenic Zone has derived its reputation as the window to Xiangbala (the celestial place far away from the turmoil of the world), the east door of Shangri-La Ecological Tourist Zone and the most glamorous scenic area in Western Sichuan Tourist Route. Hailuogou is 296 km away from Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan Province, 76 km from Kangding, the home town of “the Love Song of Kangding”. And it is the only Glacier & Forest Park in China, the central scenic area of the state-level Gongga Mt. Scenic Zone，a National Nature Reserve, National AAAA-level Tourist Area and National Geologic Park.
Hailuogou is characterized by an integration of modern oceanic glacier at the lowest altitude in Asia, ecological intact virgin forest and springs. Hailuogou has abundant resources of cold, warm, and hot springs in store. We have developed the ice mineral water, whose molecule structure tallies with that of human beings. It has the function of medical heath care. The spring water in Hailuogou of different temperature between 50 and 92°C,clean and pure, full of minerals and microelements, are high class medical water.
Gongga Mt. Rises 7556 meters above the sea level. It is also one of the world-famous towering mountains. The word “Gongga” comes from Tibetan language.” Gong” means “supreme” and “Ga” has the meaning of “Pure white”. Therefore, Gongga Mt. Is lofty, pure and celestial in Tibetan people’s heart and is worshipped by generations of Tibetan people. Around Gongga Mt. Is much more magnificent and exalted. When the first sunlight traverses the sky and shines on the mountain in the morning, you could luckily enjoy the graceful and elegant spot that is called “the Golden Mountain in the sunlight”.
Among 74 glaciers around Gongga Mt., Hailuogou modern oceanic glacier is the most famous one. It is at the lowest altitude in Asia, the closest to inland cities and the easiest for people to touch. It ranks from 6750 to 2940 meters above the sea level. The huge glacier and forest6 comes into being. That’s called “the Green sea of Glacier”. And the ice towers, bridges and wholes are formed in the process of ablation. The Great Ice Fall in the middle of the glacier, also the second glacier in the world, is 500 to 1000 meters wide and 1080 meters high.

Hailuogou is heavily clad in graceful landscapes typical of spectrum of climatic variations. It is said that “the valley brings exquisite beauties of four seasons in a harmonious display and scenic site differs distinctively from each other even within a short distance of ten miles.” Hailuogou is affluent in plant resources of high value. In the area covering only 30 sq km, there are more than 3000 species of higher plants such as azalea, Kangding magnolia and Chinese yew. Hailuogou is also the habitat of the giant panda, snow leopard and macaque. The Hailuogou fauna and flora include components of the majority of Chinese original reserves.
