Mt. QingCheng

Driving 15 minutes to the north of Dujiangyan city, you will arrive at Mt. Qingcheng, where it is the holy site of Taoism. And also Mt. Qingcheng is one of the few holy sites for Taoism in China, another famous one in China and even in Asia is Longfushan (Mt. Longfu) in Jiangxi province.

Qingcheng Mountain (Qingchengshan) is one of the ancient cradles of Taoism. The mountain has numerous Taoist temples and sites along the paths to its peak. The mountain is shrouded with mist and is green all year round, hence the Name: Qingchengshan (Mt. Qingcheng - the green mountain literally).

This mountain stands by the two sides of Min River, benefiting from its geographical location; people can overlook the Min River and the famous Dujiangyan irrigation project. Mt. Qingcheng is known for its secluded tranquility, for these reasons, that is why Zhang Daoling who select this part to be the site for preaching Taoism and built this mountain a Taoism holy site in 2nd century.

Mt. Qingcheng, the holy site of Taoism, consists of several parts: Jianfu Temple (Jianfu Gong) sits at the base of the mountain and is a large, well - preserved Daoist temple from the Tang Dynasty. About halfway up the mountain sits Tianshi Cave (Tianshi Dong) the temple and school of Zhang Daolin, a famous Taoist master who taught here and contributed greatly to spreading Daoism in China. The present Tianshi Cave buildings were built at the end of the Qing Dynasty. Lastly, near the peak sits Shangqing Temple, which was originally established in the Jin Dynasty, while the current temple buildings are Qing Dynasty constructions.

Through the history till now, the mountain keeps the consistency of Taoism preaching base, it is good to come here for a historical and religious tour and study.
